Our Team

Marty Parker, Principal and Co-founder

martyMarty Parker has over three decades of experience with computing solutions and communications technology. He has been a leader in strategic planning and product line management for IBM, AT&T, Lucent and Avaya. In the early days of the voice mail industry, he was the CEO of two software-oriented voice mail companies. Always at the leading edge of new technology adoption, Marty moved into Unified Communications in 1999, when he directed Lucent Technologies’ innovative iCosm unified communications product and the IPEX VoIP software solution. Working from those prototypes, Marty led the development and launch in 2001 of the award-winning Avaya Unified Communications Center product, the first to market with fully integrated speech, web and wireless access to calling, conferencing, voice mail, e-mail, calendar, contacts and tasks. In 2003, the product won top billing for Avaya in the first Gartner UC Magic Quadrant.

Marty became an independent consultant in 2005 when he formed Communication Perspectives. He is one of four co-founders of UCStrategies.com and a co-founder of UniComm Consulting. He holds a BS degree from the Haas Business School of the University of California at Berkeley and is past president of the Cal Business Alumni.

Marty developed and led the first training classes on Unified Communications sponsored by Business Communications Review and is a popular speaker, instructor, and panel moderator at UC industry events. He has published numerous articles and white papers on Unified Communications and is a regular blogger on Nojitter.com and UCStrategies.com.

Marty sees Unified Communications transforming the manual, unmeasured, unpredictable world of telephony and e-mail into a software-assisted, software- coordinated, simplified, predictable set of processes. This transformation will deliver high-value benefits to enterprises and their customers and employees. He believes that with careful attention to implementation and change management, UC can deliver cost savings and accelerate business processes to produce compelling hard-dollar ROI.

Don Van Doren, Principal and Co-founder

DonDon Van Doren has more than 25 years of experience as the founder and president of Vanguard Communications, a leading independent consulting firm in call center, contact center, and interactive voice response technologies and solutions. Don and Vanguard are known throughout the communications industry for consistently high quality engagements and for ongoing contributions to industry development through speaking engagements, UC news articles, and white papers. Don one of four co-founders of UCStrategies.com and a co-founder of UniComm Consulting. He is also a regular blogger on UCStrategies.com.

Prior to founding Vanguard, Don held management positions in several systems integration firms. He holds an undergraduate degree in American Studies from Yale University and an MBA from the University of Michigan.

Don sees Unified Communications as an innovation that will build on the learning and experience of the contact center industry. Though UC solutions touch many business processes other than those served by contact centers, the principles of integrating communications into business processes are consistent. Contact centers have optimized customer service and lowered costs by integrating business process information into communications events through customer self-service and personalized agent interactions. Like the contact centers, UC will optimize business processes, lower costs, increase revenues and enhance customer service by linking information and software assistance to the communication functions in those business processes.
